What types of URLs does the File Import connector support?

The File Import connector supports ftp:// and https:// URLs which link directly to the file.

It also supports:

  • Dropbox files
  • Google Sheets
  • SharePoint Excel files

To create the Dropbox link to import into Wink

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Hover over the file you’d like to import into Wink and click the share icon (rectangle with an up arrow).
  3. From the dropdown, select can view.
    • If a link hasn't been created, click Create.
    • If a link has been created, then click Copy link.
  4. You can then use the link in the File Import connector when adding a new file.

To create the Google Sheet link to import into Wink

  1. In Google Sheets, open the file you want to import into Wink
  2. At the top, click File -> Share -> Publish to web
  3. Select the publishing option Entire Document and the publishing format Microsoft Excel (.xlsx).
  4. Click Publish to retrieve the link.
  5. You can then use the link in the File Import connector when adding a new file.

To create the SharePoint link to import into Wink via an unauthenticated link

  1. In SharePoint, pick the file you want to import and click the Share icon
  2. Under Copy Link, select People in <Your Organization> can edit to open the Link Settings. Select the option Anyone with the link so Wink can access the file.
  3. You can then use the link in the File Import connector when adding a new file.

If you are unable to create an Anyone link then likely your SharePoint organization has disabled unauthenticated sharing. Your organization will have to enable it by by following this Microsoft article

To create the SharePoint link to import into Wink via a user login

If your SharePoint organization has disabled unauthenticated sharing then you have to provide a SharePoint user login to Wink Reports in order to be able to import the SharePoint file.The user login must have Multi Factor Authentication disabled. Creating a guest login dedicated for Wink Reports is recommended.

  1. In Wink Reports, go to the Connectors page, scroll down to Microsoft 365 and click Connect Now. Enter your SharePoint user login and save.
  2. Open the Excel sheet in SharePoint and copy the link from the URL bar.  You can then use the link in the File Import connector when adding a new file after you have provided the credentials in the Microsoft 365 connector.
